A Mother's Kiss......

Last night, I kissed my mother good-bye @ 7:45pm. I will always remember that time, because @ 9:40pm, she passed away.... I didn't call her, or visited her enough, though I always told myself I should. She raised me by herself since I was 5. She did a good job. Her name was Rachel. She was my biggest fan. All the little league games, pop warner football...I am a big Dodger fan, and, of course, so was she. We would chat on the phone complaining on how poorly they played. When I went to UCLA..she, of course, was a UCLA fan... rooting and booing as she watched me from afar... She didn't have much money, but she always scraped enough to buy me glove and cleats...All she did was love me.... Yesterday morning, her health failed her, and my brother called me. I told him to dial 911... I drove the 80 miles and met them at the ER. As always, she was mad at us for fussing over her..she told us to go home to our families... I thought she was fine. She was too feisty to succumb...I thought. 8 hours later, when she was secure in her bed..her condition stabilized....she told us to go home... and kissed us good-bye...like a mother always does.... I love you, Mom... Merry Christmas! All of you..... call your mom... tell her you love her.... and wish her a Merry Christmas.... Slammy

Slam- man, What a wonderful lady, and although you are in pain right now, time will turn your sadness into tender memories. You were loved- and you loved your Mom in return- couldn't be more perfect. I always feel sadness for us left behind- your Mom is at peace, and has no pain. We are here, dealing with a void in our lives. My heart goes out to you, Slammy, as well as your family. Cathi

Slammerman, I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother, Rachel. There always seems to be guilt about not spending enough time with our mothers after they pass. However, considering how many children are estranged from one or both parents, you gave her the best gift you could ever have given her. Your love. So many parents never get that gift. Imagine the happiness you brought her, by including her in your life. Reading your post, I can just see her in the stands cheering and booing. How much joy that must have given her. Hold on to that joy as a balance for the sorrow you now feel. Peace, David J.

Thanks for the reminder. It's been awhile since I told my Mom how much I loved her and how much her smile means to me and showed her with pride the ways I'm "being a good boy" like she told me to...35 years ago when we kissed goodbye. Her last wish was to ease the pain her death would cause me...ain't that just like a Mom. And so....like when I'd show her a bad scratch that hurt like hell....to keep her from worrying I'd say...."aaaw ma...it ain't so bad". No cookie she gave me was ever sweeter than the kiss that "made it all better". Walk in her sunshine...celebrate her life den

Slammy, I cried and cried for you when I read your post. No words can make this better or ease your deepest pain. If they could I would give them to you in a heart beat. All I can give to you is love and support. You have my sincerest sympathies, and a shoulder to cry on should you ever need it. Your Mom was one hell of a lady. I wish you a Christmas that is filled with the celebration of her life. Cat

I'm sorry to hear this, Slammy. Death be not Proud Death be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so, For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow, Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me. From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be, Much pleasure: then from thee much more must flow, And soonest our best men with thee do go, Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery. Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men, And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell; And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternally, And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die. -- John Donne
