Your idea for a laminated medical info card is too good to pass by. Have you discussed this with our Leaders? If not, I sure hope you do!

Can you just imagine walking into an ER with a card listing your condition, abortive, preventative, & docs name? What a weapon.......what an eye-opener...what a way to get the kind of help we need out in the open.

We in Italy have had the same thought, but with a piece of paper as support. The idea of a card is fantastic. Gives credits to us poor headbangers, quicken (at least I hope) the E.R. procedures, and so on. The only bad thing: how can this card be "validated" evidently by our doctor? And this is a necessity, otherwise the card will have a huge loss of credibility! Any suggestion appreciated

I have a medic-alert bracelet. It has a phone number so that if they want the info, they call. Medica-Alert will tell them what meds I take, who my family doctor, neuro and cardiologist are and what my medical condition is. It's a little expensive, but well worth the price. If ever I have a problem, I have piece of mind that if I can speak for myself, my bracelet will...and it's recognized worldwide. just my 2 cents worth hugs Ann

Ann, please, have you any WEB site of this Company (Med-Alert). I would find if exist any similar in Italy. The bad problem of the card is that we need too much info, and too much different (chronic/episodic, meds, allergies, kind of cycles... etc.) Thanks

We would merely need a paper prepared by us, take it to our doc and have him sign it. We then have it reduced in size and have it laminated. I have seen many Last Wills and Medical Directives this size in our own ER here in Venice (not Italy, darn it!) We need a form on an official OUCH paper with the blanks in the right places. I can look into the reduction in size and laminating if this thing gets going.

Reckon you could get a lot fancier, spend a lot of money, etc........but is this kind of like something that might work (with some touching up, of course)? Just horsing around in a cheesy graffix program. Somebody out there has to have more talent than me......... Laminating's cool, but clear contact paper works just fine when printed on 110# cardstock. Since I can do it, it's _Definitely_ not art. What's in YOUR wallet....... RJ

Nice little graphic by the way. Wish I could figger out my artsy fartsy thing, just began fooling with it. Anyway. This did get mentioned by me and others here before. It began with my suggesting a necklace or Medic Alert thing but someone else came up with the card. No matter what you put on it, so long as it is well-designed, and obviously not something just thrown together, it should make things work much better in the ER especially. Maybe something like a web addy, would be a good thing as well. The more stuff the better. Perhaps just having it under the plastic window in your wallet would be enough. It would be way cool if something like this happens. Charlie

yes, Charlie. This would be way cool if we could come up with something like this. working on it with my Dr. soon. (really, I am) Everyone"s would be different of course. Mine would read, for an example.... Linda Howell.....blah, blah blah. Primary Physician....Dr. Mc Daniel Medications..............02......Imitrex In case of severe bodily harm to any in vicinity, please administer Oxygen at, at least 15 lpm... to said patient. After that, please put pillows around area where she may tend to bang her head. Then please shoot her in the thigh with Imitrex. Now I'm kidding of course, but some of this is viable. just got to figure out the right wording. Linda

Nice ideas Ann, Randy, Linda and the rest. Actually, something not all that different from Randy's with some more info would be good. The bracelet or necklace is good too. I have an epilepsy card that came with my necklace that I rarely wear unless traveling. The card comes with the Medic Alert thing from what I remember. All we need to do is get one of them to copy. Mine’s a mess as it's out of date and my doctors are dead or retired....time for a new one. I wonder if there is something on the web to copy? Good for you Linda. Keep us posted. I guess any one of us could do his own but the OUCH info is a great idea. Charlie

I would like to suggest that if OUCH designed the card and put it up for us to copy and print, we could use business card stock, take it to our docs for a signature and we would be in business. The logo and blessings of our organization would be a tool for making an impression on the medical world, ie: the ER, firestation (if someone had to go that route), even most of our doctors. They might even suggest it to sufferers we don't know. If it doesn't look authentic and uniform, it won't make many waves.

Threw a dart at the names on the wall, and the unlucky recipient (hereafter referred to as "Leader") will be getting a request to further this idea. Quote: Have you discussed this with our Leaders? |
| Considering the price of admission, it's unjust to lay too much on any _one_ as a "Leader". As far as I'm concerned, you, Donna, and Charlie, Riccardo, Ann, Linda, and everyone else here, are "Leaders". With just a little *coordination*, there's no reason why simple projects like this can't _bare fruit_. We can't all go running off half-cocked on our own; if a "Projects Director" is needed, then, by Wotan's Beard, let's have one....and if one already exists, WHO IS IT? :) Don't ask the organization what it can do for you, ask what you can do for the organization. (Hey....original, eh??!!<G>) "Heads" up, RJ

Something like this wouldn't be too expensive, especially for someone with most of the tools already. All ya need is a color printer, scanner, laminator machine, and card stock paper. Either print out the cards on regular paper at a large size, fill it out and have the doc sign it, scan it, shrink the scan, print out on card stock, then lamitate it. Or, print out the card with all information except doc signature at normal scale on card stock, have doc sign it, and laminate it. PFDAN.................................. Drk^Angel PS... BTW... You can pick of a small laminator machine at K-mart or WalMart for like $20. DA

Hello there Mr. Happy........when I referred to "our leaders", I was thinking about our leaders in OUCH. We have proper committees that handle things like this and I would hope we receive their blessings before we go out and start using the OUCH name without everyones approval. I just have a personal "thing" about keeping it uniform and professional. I guess I am just proud of OUCH and wouldn't want anyone to mess up the image. Nice to hear your suggestions........this could really be a good tool for us.

Great idea! Lets not forget the line on the back that reads: WARNING: Asking patient any questions that are redundant to any information on this card will cause him/her to stab you in the eye with a pencil! ;D No seriously though, it is a great idea. I wonder if these can be done in braille since so many doctors seem to be blind to the affliction ??? Seeya, Jimbo
