hi everyone, i'm new around here and have been lurking about for some time now. i'm afraid i have never been much of a chat kind of guy so i've been a little hesitant to post. my wife discovered this site some months ago but since i am not a typical cluster sufferer and had really only met 2 people other then my wife that seemed to have any idea of what i'm going thru so i didn't listen to her. i now know what a mistake that was. even lurking has been somewhat cathartic or soothing or i don't know something... i'm still not sure if i really belong here or anywhere else for that matter! i seem to be able to relate to a lot of what i read here but have the impression that if i were to throw my story/gripes/history out there that no one would relate back. am i making any sense at all? btw thats one of my gripes/problems, never being sure if i'm saying what i am trying to say. i think in the interest of not junking up your board i will end there and just say hi again... and i hope to get to know some of you soon

Welcome to the board! Sorry that the beast has a white hot, rusty fish hook anchored in your eye, and is using it to try to pull your cranium through the keyhole of your front door, and out into the street to be ripped apart by the steel brushes on the street sweeper, before being spat out into the gutter. Good luck! PFDAN..................................... Drk^Angel

Tanner, I too lurked here for a looooong time. I would come by every 6 months when hit by the beast. Reading and knowing that others experienced the same thing as I did helped me alot. Just knowing you are not alone is great therapy. I realized that if I got comfort from knowing there were people that would understand, I should throw my name into the lot. Stand up and be counted as it were. Who knows, your story might lead others to relate theirs. And BTW, the group as a whole are VERY understanding and like most, they don't eat their young! So post away, just be sure you aren't a meegraineur. Dave

Welcome aboard. Tell us more. You now have 100s of friends who know exactly what it is and what it can do to you and others. Fire away, spill your guts, and open up. We can't begin to beat up on you until you do. ;D All seriousness aside, glad to have you aboard. Charlie

tanner, As always a double edge welcome. Sorry you had to find us, but glad you are here. Put on a hard hat, mouth guard and thigh high boots and wade right in. What works for me is a triptan, Maxalt MLT 10mg. (fast acting, under the tongue dissolving tablet) combined with oxygen therapy. You can’t get many Maxalt tabs from insurance (6 per month max. for me) so you have to save those for the Big One and you can’t take more than 2 in any 24 hour period, so the oxygen is absolutely necessary for all the other times you feel the shadows creeping in. Go to the search button in the top right corner and type in “oxygen” and read up. This site is your one stop information resource, so start reading all the categories on the left hand side of the page, read it all, the more knowledge you have the better you can communicate with the medical community. Be sure to read about and do a search for “triggers”, these are catalysts that can really set us off. My major ones are alcohol, bright light entering my right eye and some times flickering florescent lights. Avoiding triggers during your cycle can dramatically affect the intensity, duration and number of attacks. I have also used Zomig ZMT 5 mg., (it also is a fast acting dissolving tab under the tongue) and it worked, with the oxygen, of course. The cumulative amount of knowledge residing within these people on the board, is amazing. Give them as much info about your problem (see “Hints for your first post”) and they will be able to help that much more. Good luck, friend, David J.
