Everyone is missing the point. No Newbie just suddenly finds this site and puts up a post; they lurk and lurk and lurk—I had been here 2 yrs. ago in my last cycle and lurked again when this cycle started. I decided to jump in with both feet, knowing what would happen, and stir things up—to give the Veterans some of their own medicine—to make them think. You saw how fucking defensive everyone became. But it caused a lot of discussion. No one would check this board every day if the same old shit was always posted. We all need diversion from this pain. Without traffic this board dies—and no one would be here to welcome the Newbies or to give prayers and support to a Veteran in need.
Violence and Sex sells! Look at the news, look at the movies, look at TV, look at Howard Stern. It’s that “dangerous quality”, not knowing what will be said or happen next. These confrontational posts are what “sells” this website—it’s what gives us traffic—it’s our life blood. Any Newbie posting KNOWS that they might get shot down (Don’t kid yourself on this one). Would ice hockey be as fun to watch without the fights? Do people really go to car races to see hunks of metal go around and around in circles really fast or are they there because it’s dangerous and an accident could happen at any time?
Without these incredible bursts of violent sarcastic posts, would any of you people check this board 3 or 4 times every day?
Look at the numbers when Jonny starts a thread! Talk about ratings, within minutes it has dozens of hits. The meegrain/cluster thread started yesterday has 556 hits as of now. 556 hits, think about it. Do you really think everyone is coming back over and over to read about Verapamil again?
Everyone get a GRIP, and let’s have some fun.

Not everyone.
I read the board two, sometimes three times a day and I try to avoid the blowups. I leave feeling terribly upset if I read them and usually I read a couple of lines of hostile posts and skip them - which is sad because I am sure I miss good parts of a long thread that way.
I lurk because I keep looking for the rays of light that shine through and because I felt alone until I discovered this forum. I need the good feeling - lord knows there is enough of the bad.
I feel far more alone when I read hostility, even understanding that people sometimes need that.

I hope you can see that my post is half-way tongue in cheek (half tongue, half cheek). The full blown knock-down, drag-out fights are not what this board is about and I think everyone will now agree to that, especially when one of the participants also realizes it.
However it is naive to think that all the people looking for help, will only see one thread out of many. If this is so troubling for some people, just skip those posts. With 556 hits in a day and a half, it didn’t look like people were voting with the channel changer. I don’t even know what you guys were fighting about, it wasn’t worth my time to wade through so much negative energy. But I know that both of you have good hearts, and that’s enough for me. I answered the first question of the thread and moved on. Really good, witty repartee is hard to find in this world, and that is one of the reasons I love this board. If the shit hits the fan, the rest of the board doesn’t have to stand in front of it. I’m in with Bob_P when he said.

Doesn't surprise me at all that jonny gets plenty of hits. While his posts can run the gammit from warm to harsh the one thing is certain. Jonny lets you know what he feels and there is no hidden agenda. What you read is what you get. For that matter there are numerous old and new frequent posters that I get a kick out of. Many many more who's incite and honestly I find valuable. As you all have come to understand I myself am an 8 - 5 M - F poster (unless the wife drives me out of the house), and for some reason you havn't run me away yet.
This is a great place. I look forward to reading what the sufferers and supports have to write, opinions of others, the support threads, the joke threads and the occasional flame threads.
I love this place.

I agree with what you're saying. It's sometimes like a bad car accident - you can't NOT watch. And, quite often, it is what keeps us coming back.
But, let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater here. Yes, if we stuck to strictly cluster treatment talk here, the board would quickly become pristine and sterile. So we piss and moan to break up the monotony a bit and, yes, sometimes take runs at folks who make assanine statements or offer us miracle cures, or we attack cluster wannabes and groupies. It's human nature, really. We ARE an elite group, because we have (or support someone with) a very rare disease. We deserve to toot our horns for surviving this disease and have every right to want to keep this oasis 'pure'.
Actually, David, the point that I hope everyone ISN'T missing is that if a genuine clusterhead or genuine supporter shows up here, the veterans/oldtimers/don'twannabes - whatever you wanna call us - are usually the first to love bomb the newbie with all of our arsenal that we hold in reserve for battling the beast.
But yeah, when we see someone keep coming back here who has repeatedly shown us that they don't have clusters or don't have a clue about what it is to live with clusters, we're gonna bite and keep chewing. Every time. It's who we are and will continue to be.

I realize I'm new here...and I enjoy almost everyone's posts. Yes, I read the sterile treatment posts, but I do have to say I REALLY enjoy the others. I am still trying to get to know everyone, and it is a hoot to read everyone's thoughts. This would be sooooooo boring if everyone thought alike.

Sommelier and Margi I get it. The only posts I dont get are usually my own. I agree that diversity or diversion is what makes all the world go around and if pep dont get it so what.  I also looked in from the outer limits probably from when this site was started untill I saw a post that got to me and I just had to throw in my 2 cents. Drk and jonny I enjoyed your fight though I had no Idea what it was about. But do you have to hog the whole board.
