Has anybody tried sleeping pills to get through the night? I'm seeing my neuro tomorrow, so I'm making a list of what to ask.  Grin
Maybe a stupid idea, but I just want to know. Because sleep is really starting to become problem.  Cry

I take Ambien on occassion as I am going through the "change" and it has distrupted my sleep cycle. It doesn't do anything to ward off a CH however .........all that happens is I wake up sleepy with a headache! On the nights where I don't get a headache however it does give me a good nights sleep.

I pop an Amerge before bedtime every night during a cycle.  Sometimes, 1/2 is enough, other times I need the full dose.  You might consider it.  I sleep like the dead...no attacks....but a little groggy in the morning.  Nothing a good cup of Java can't handle.  Also, because I'm not getting hit during the night, the beast gets even with me during the day.  At least 2 or 3 attacks during the day.  But if you've had a good night's sleep, it's a little easier to take.  Grin

Good luck

Oke, I am definitely putting this on my list.  Cheesy
Even if it doesn't keep the CH away, at least I feel like I'm dreaming!!!
Allright, it will probably feel like a nightmare... But those I can handle.

Ambien has helped me.  You can't take it all the time, and it helps you get to sleep, not stay asleep, so those magic 3 and 5 am headaches will stiull rear their ugly little heads. Worth a try...

Before I knew what I had-one of the doctors I went to gave me sleeping pills (prescription) I really didn't think it would work-the problem was not falling asleep-but I did it so we could rule it out and move on. I forget the name of the drug, but it did NOTHING to avert the CH's.  There were a few wacky ideas also-(like eye drops) that obviously didn't work-but theats when I finally got referred to a neuro and that was the answer. She was informed and helpful.

I'm not a suffer'r but am a CH supporter but I have taken Ambien every nite for bout 3 years straight....only way I can sleep....I jump or jerk awake in a few minutes normally if not....can't fall asleep and stay that way. It would just help you fall asleep possibly and sleep for a while at least peacefully...but it 'wouldn't' do a thing for the attacks and you'd wake rite up....I don't have that drug hangover in the morning strong scripts caused I hated....only my 2-cents here....nothin more.....good luck......

I work split shift so sleep is always a problem. Ambien has helped me, no hangover etc. My Doctor will only give me 10 a month though. OTC Benydrl also has helped but next morning I am a little hung over. I have also had some success with 3mg of Melatonin, for sleep, not CH.
Good luck

Thanks to Jonny, I’ve been taking my Maxalt MLT 10mg. or my Zomig ZMT 5mg. (both are abortive triptans) right before I fall asleep. And lo and behold I’ve gotten through the night since Thursday with NO BIG ONES!!! Since I get hit 2 hours into sleep every night, I’m not worried that I’m wasting a precious pill (I’d be using it anyway). I got 10 frigging hours of beautiful, wonderful sleep last night. And as members of this board will attest, since I’m not up 30+ hours at a stretch, my posts have gotten much more succinct (to the joy of all). ;D

If sleeping in a recliner helps (perhaps elevating the head keeps the blood from pooling and building up pressure), try to find a foam wedge for your bed at a medical supply store, or make one yourself. This should do the same thing, yet let you sleep in your own bed! My father had one prescribed for his heart condition.
