Like everyone I dread going to bed my cycle is 1 hour sleep 1 hour pain usually 4 to 7 attacks per night.Being Canadian I love to have a beer but I have abstained as it is a major trigger when I`m not sleeping.Last night I gave in my son scored 2 goals against a very tough hockey team and I just had to celebrate. My sister in law suggested drinking Corona and I have to tell you I had 5 came home and slept like a baby.As I type this I have a shadow but I just wanted to share this with everyone.{ and no, I don`t work for Corona ha ha}

My guess is luck. Alcohol is the trigger, not what nit is mixed with.

If your episodic and in cycle I will personally guarantee an nattack 99.08 % of the time. You may be the .02% THIS time.

As for Den, he is the .02 % in all cases any way.

Episodic and when in cycle alcohol is an invitation to the beast to dance......... however, when out of cycle.... last night a couple of "George Killian's Irish Red's" , in a frosted mug, were quite good.  ;D
Congrats on the pain free night now matter how it happened!

LMAO Don!!

Jim, I thought I would try having a beer too.  Had a Corona (my beer of choice...unless Moosehead is available)  I hadn't drunk half the beer when I was hit..big time!  Until I'm sure the bastard has moved on, I will not touch another beer.  Makes for a very dry Christmas!  Hope you have better luck than I!!

When I was in cycle I could not go near Coors lite, would do me in everytime but I found that I could drink vodka and club soda but would have to drink alot of it and each time I did on the weekends I would be pf the whole night. If I only had a few then it didnt work. Who knows though, maybe I drank so much that I didnt remember the next day that I had an attack.  Smiley

I am a big beer drinker myself and same thing.it's a big no.no when in a cycle.I havn't touched one and won't til cycle is over, but for those of you that don't know ,you can drink Vodka,it's not my choice of beverage but a couple screwdrivers or bloodymary's go down pretty good,,couple other drinks you can have to but don't remember what they are. Anyway ,just thought I'd throw that everybody's way who didn't that about Vodka.
And it is fact not fiction about Vodka. Cheesy

Matt,

Just curious what the "fact" is about Vodka?

Vodka was my drink of choice.  When in cycle it meant a full blown attack within 15 minutes.  Any alcohol meant an attack and believe me, I tried them all (that's what alcoholics do).

I received a list from my doc. with lists of do's / don'ts and when it came to drinks it's not the alcohol that triggers it's a ingredeit in the drink
and Vodka doesn't have it. Not making a arguement just telling what I read and the Vodka works for me ,doesn't trigger the beast. But I don't get all loaded cause don't want to mix the Trex injections with a load of alcohol in me,sorry it doesn't work for you.. I'll get the list and  paste it in, will take me a little time for I have to scan it in at my fathers on his computer.I can also just email it to you if you want.
Take care,Matt

I'll save you the effort.  Here is the list of cluster triggers:

"Alcohol, nitroglycerine, exercise and elevated environmental temperature are recognised precipitants of acute cluster attacks."

With clusters, unlike migraines, it's the alcohol, not what's in it.

I suspect that your doctor, just like my neurologist, handed you the list of things to avoid for migraines.

Alcohol is a vasodialator.  Just what you don't need when fighting clusters.  That's why your face flushes when you drink.  That's why long time drinkers have the red nose with the spider web blood vessels.  That's why you shouldn't drink when you're cold.  The vessels dialate and you lose body heat faster.

I suspect that the mechanism which keeps your blood vessels in check normally is whacko when in a cluster and unable to fight the vasodialating qualities of alcohol.

Can someone clear this up for me?   Please?

I assumed red wine was a trigger...it was pretty much a given that if I drank red wine, I would be hit.

But does all alchohol trigger them?  Since I usually have one every night anyway...what the hell.  The medical info on this sight said that if alchohol is going to trigger an attack, it would hit shortly after drinking.

Is alchohol still a trigger if it doesn't hit until 4 hrs. later?
