One Year Wait For Neuro

Not that I ever had any intention of going to see a doctor anyways but my mother(fuck head that she is) couldn't mind her own biz and tried to get me to see one.
So the family doctor went to set up an appt with a neuro in Kingston,Ontario and the waiting list is over a year long.
Like I said it doesn't affect me b/c I will rot in hell before I'd trust those sickos again but the situation is really disgusting for anyone that does want to go.
The hospitals in Kingston seem more like a 3rd world country than what one would expect in Canada.
If it wasn't for Karla Homolka having once stayed here the place would be a complete waste.

 rant over now
so how is everyone anyways?  and why have I not recieved any money/gifts from you people yet??? Smiley

One year to wait is crazy. I had 3 month wait, cycle is gone by that time but will go anyway and cant hurt you to go either. Feel free to vent anytime, most of us do here once in awhile but next time maybe you should leave out those comments about your mom  Shocked
Good luck to you,

I haven't been to Kingston but I think it's a decent size town.  Do yourself a favor and see another neurologist. Some of them are okay.

I post all the time that my neurologist has almost no waiting period...maybe a day or two for newcomers but he seems to understand. He's weird but competent. Of course I see him for epilepsy now and I suspect they treat us well because we have a "real" problem. Still, he has several CH patients.

Good luck and be nice to yourself

Gotta love that socialized health care.  WOW.

All I can say is, what in the world would you do if you had a brain tumor - a year is way too long to wait.  I thought 3 weeks was bad.

Now, now, LT.......it's not nice to talk about your mother that way. Remember that she carried you for 9 months (+ or -),  birthed you, and wiped your snot laden nose for you in the early years. If I'm reading my manual corrrectly, we're supposed to feel guilty about that  and revere their matronly footsteps forever.
Or not.....  Smiley

Interesting neuro thing here. Last bout, I got the same kind of deal: 4 month wait. By that time I was out of cycle, and was busy fishing and drinking Milwaulkee into working overtime.  Bag the neuro for that one...........

Changed MD's this time....got an app't with a neuro after a 6 day wait (plus 2 1/2 hr wait in the office). Eureka!!!!! Well, almost. The neuro himself is a most excellent chap..........told me he see's plenty of CH's, listened intently, took notes and dictation, and understood what I was after, especially since I refused any kind of pain meds. It wasn't until he got out his script pad that the fun started. The first thing he did was turn to his computer, pull up his browser, and head to Google. Thought he was going to use his secret passwords to enter the mother of all medical sites....but noooooooooooo......... he type's in "cluster headache medication dosage". I almost pissed myself I was laffing so hard. Scooted around so I could see the monitor, and watched him look at the result (try those search paramaters). After we refined things a tad, he wrote me a script for more Verapamil (low dose, but I can adjust it), gave me a sample Imitrex (1 pill, 1 nasal hit), told me O2 might work, but he didn't know how to specifically order it, flow rate, ins. coverage, etc. Had I not walked in there with my one-size-fits-all CH folder filled with the Info of the Gods (thank you all),  things might have gone ill. As it was, we laffed about how insurance would cover his $200+ office bill, the $1000 MRI I'm getting this afternoon (strictly a CYA deal, unless Im lucky and it's not CH, but rather a decent sized tumor he can actually see and remove), blood panel, etc., and yet not be covered for as many *triptan's as needed to abort.  Left with a pocket full of scripts, his fone number for More Meds, and a chuckle on my lips. It was everything I expected....... and less! Glad I'm only a mere eposodic clod with once a day visits from el Hombre, and not one of you that is truly chronic. You folks have my deepest respect and admiration.........

If there's a point to this rant, it has to be this:
I've never met a doctor who admitted he/she had no idea what's what. Stay congenial, arm yourself to the teeth with printed info, have SOME idea of what you want before you go in, and don't take NO for an answer.

Good luck LT!

Best to all............

When I'm reading all this I am glad I don't live on the other side of the ocean.

Here everything gets paid by your insurance. Wich is mostly sponsored by the goverment. Until you reach a certain salary, then you have to pay your insurance completely with an own risk.

Because I don't make that much money I have the first insurance. I can get as much imitrex shots I want. Even my O2 gets paid.

This country is heaven for sick and ill!!!

Oke, most of the time you have to wait 2 or 3 weeks of you want to see a specialist. But when you're in, you're in...

Hey LT, don't feel too bad. I had to wait three months to see my own DR once. It had been a while since I had seen him I guess I pissed him off!. I have a pretty good GP who will see my same day or next if I need it and see is genuinely interested in learing about CH and helping me. The Neuro has gotten better too. I may not always get to see him direct but I can get to his PA pretty quick and she seems to be able to get to my mysterious Neuro freely.

PFDAN for about a month now  ;D
See ya,

OK, first of all - as a Canadian - I need to clear something up.  We DON'T live in a country that 'has insurance for all people, regardless of income'.  We have provincial health care plans that some employers will pay - but not all employers do that anymore.  Quite often, we have to pay this monthly insurance ourselves.  Here, in Alberta, for a family, our premium for that part of insurance is $88.  Not affordable by everyone, unfortunately and we can NOT be seen by a doctor unless we have it...they WILL turn us away if we can't pay C.O.D. right then.

Next, there are group insurance plans here, only available through employer sponsorship - not everyone here is lucky enough to have a job that provides those benefits.  I am my company's plan administrator and the cost to have one employee on this plan averages $300 a month.  These type of plans are not available to individuals - it's got to be a group plan.  Blue Cross is available to individuals, but their premiums are quickly becoming unaffordable to blue collar workers.

And, as our political climate here is continually changing, our covered services are becoming fewer and fewer - we are, for the first time in MY life, having to pay for "extra" services - stitches, crutches, flu shots, anaesthetic, etc.   So Canada isn't as rosy as it once was, for SURE.

Now, LT... my husband is from Kingston originally and still has family that lives there.  We are hearing, here in Alberta, that health care is quickly deteriorating in Ontario as well.  I, too, was told that there was a 1 year wait here at the Foothills Hospital to get in to the Headache Clinic.  Um...I've never really been one who respected rules, so when Mike was in his last cycle, I emailed that clinic and stressed the urgency that he be seen quickly (that's putting it mildly Wink)...  Most of our general practitioners are moving to the States for better pay, so Mike doesn't have a doctor that can give him a referral.  I bitched and moaned long enough to this particular neuro's staff  that they actually made room for us that afternoon.  LT, if you need help getting in to see your neuro, let me know...I'm a good lil email writer Wink

And, don't go too hard on your mom.  Us moms out here do that kinda stuff for our kids.  We're given Mother Tiger lessons in the hospital after we deliver you and they stick for life.

So there you have it.  A not-so-quick lesson on health care in Canada and How to Blast by Neurologist's Bitchy Receptionists, 101.  I'm done now.

oh, and OFFICIALLY, Happy Birthday, Bob P.  Wink

Mr Happy,

I just love your writing style...  Comical, informative, etc...  anyways...  Good for you.  Since you know more about CH than your neuro, I think next time you see him, you should take one of those diplomas off the wall and keep it for yourself...

Total ditto on the going in armed with info.  I found that the following works  on getting seen sooner than 1 year:
1. always go in person Shocked
2. weeping hysterically while crumpling onto their floor Cry
3. telling them that the voices in your head told you to clean your guns last night ( ;D
4. explainning, in detail, how hideous the pain is Embarassed

Okay, I've actually tried three of these methods.
The voice thing, well, lets not go there.

And, geez, I had been led to believe that you folks in Canada really did have it made.  I'm sorry to hear that your health care system is as screwed up as ours.

LT, the word F...and mother should never be used together when referring to the woman who carried your sorry butt for 9 months, changed diapers, wiped noses, ect.

Oh, and LT, I was not aware that we were to send you money and/or gifts.  What exactly would you like?
I will consult with the voices and see what we can do Roll Eyes

Stampertje- Nice medical service in the Netherlands.
Wish everywhere were the same. But, cannot happen in the USA, TO many people here some 250million I believe
is the number.

We have learned from Canadian system it would never
work. Like Canada has we would have everyone running
to emergency for fever, It is A real problem here in US,
With no solution in sight. All ready the elderly have to go to Canada to affort the Meds. Shamefull Sad  WAS a great
country A one time.

Hi Margie- Yes I have been to Canada several times, I
have many friends in St Cathriens Ontario. and Hockey
was my life when I lived in Mass. And I have seen many games in Montreal..

But, the information I provided was not my own assessment of the Canadian health system. But rather
investigative  reporting, sixty min. or 20/20 some show like that. I truely thinking that was aleing the system. And my friends from st cathriens spoke of it a time or too. But, They do not know anything Margie they are Native Americans from the six nations. Mohawk Wink Wink
