Anyone tried Acular?
« on: Nov 13th, 2002, 1:35pm »

Hello,

Went to neurologist today, and he put me on Acular, which is an eye drop steroid.  He says that a common trigger for ch is the eye socket pain (which I get) and this could nip it in the bud, as an abortive method.

Has anyone tried this?  Does it work?

Thanks,
Brad

When a cluster headaches is coming on, I feel it coming.  My neck tightens up, my jaw gets sore, and my eye socket/cheekbone/eyebrow bone all get very tender.

Doc says eyedrops "could" abort it.

I'm curious -- which is why I asked.

Thanks,
Brad

Interesting.........
Acular is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that reduces pain and inflammation in the eyes...used in allergy treatment.

Keep us posted, Brad.

Hey Brad,

I've never tried it, but I wouldn't put too much faith in it. The eye pain, for me anyway, is more behind the eye. Also, the eye pain is just one of many symptoms Cluster H/A's give. I don't see how this would "Abort" a Cluster. It possibly could help with the eye pain. I just doubt it. Let us know how it worked out.

Jackie,

Allergies?!?!?!?!  This guy seemed up to date with treatments and knowledge about ch.

I'll try it, but I guess the bubble of hope has burst.

Brad,

Please don't let this burst your bubble.  Who knows it may work.  Look at all the drugs that are used to treat CH.  Drugs that were not designed for CH at all.  Acular doesn't seem like a very good fit but like I said "who knows".

It looks like you need to be very careful using it as infections can occur if you don't keep things sterile.

Good Luck,

Brad:

I get all the same symptoms as it's coming on.  The eye socket pain is usually a key indicator -- sort of my primary "shadow" feeling.

While I find this hard to imagine as the salve for the problem, I'd LOVE to be proven wrong.

Keep us posted.

Good luck with this thing Brad.

I, like Dogg, had pain behind the eye rather than the socket.  Still, what if there are some other weird properties with his drug? Some of these alien doctors might know WTF they're doing....I hope.  Probably can't hurt anyway.
