Well, I visited my new family practitioner today, for the first time. I did not have to educate him at all. I brought in my ch meds that my old doc had me on. He asked if I felt like the ns imitrex was working for me. I told him that I am not currently in a cycle, but that the last cycle it seemed to do the trick in about five or ten min. He actually told me that that was good, and that I should try it more with my next cycle. He said that if it stops working as well, that he has had good results with Oxygen in the other victims he has had. (and yes, he said victims...) I guess I wanted everyone to know that sometimes you can find a doc who can help, and is willing to know more. He asked me for any info I had and wanted to know if I would like a website to go to (here) and I almost cried. To think, my doc has been to this site and looked around. I am just hoping that once I am in a cycle, he is still willing to help. Does anyone out there think that five or ten min. for my imitrex ns to work , is good, because in my opinion, that is not quick enough for me. Also, is anyone episodic, and take verapamil...I have a Q... Are you supposed to take it even if your cycle is gone, and it should stay gone for a year or more? Or do you just keep taking it day after day after day....? Hugs and fresh ice packs to you all dawn

Ive seen from other posts that once their HA ends, they ween themselves off the verapermil. I also have the ns imitrex for the next time, havent tried it yet but have heard the injections work quicker and along with O2, alot of people have much better results. I have learned alot here but my cycle has ended so at least I know for the next time. Good Luck to you.

Good news and great that you found a doctor. Just effen great! I have a story about some doctors educated in India. I've seen two of them. The first one made it clear to me that he comes from an upper class. A lot of them do, and frankly don't think much of simple, poorly educated, and not very special, (at least in their minds) Americans. This isn't as paranoid as it sounds. I've read about it. In truth, my current one, that I see for my seizures, is amazing, and will see me anytime and let me time my own appointments. He doesn't mind because he says he understands that my not driving can be a problem. He's a rare bird. More power to him even though he and I come from such different backgrounds. He says he treats several CHers. Would that everyone had access to a neurologist with such an attitude. I do wonder it it's because they tend to treat epilepsy as a "real" disease? I hope that isn't so....... I don't know if that was interesting or even belongs here, but the stories I read of people waiting weeks to see these specialists, infuriate me. Charlie

I also have a very special MD. He is my Family Practioner, and knows more about combating Cluster H/A's then all the neuro's I've seen. He has me on the Verapamil 24/7, even when not in cycle. Although the dose gets lowered to 240mg per day. But I also have border-line hypertension. So that may be the reason. Dogg

Congratulations on finding a good Doctor. That can be hard to do sometimes. I have been going to same neuro for about 10 years. He takes pretty good care of me, but it can be hard to see him direct sometimes. I get his P/A about 2/3 time, but she is pretty good too. As far as the speed of Imitrex, I use the 6mg injection and it takes it at least 5 min to work. If the NS is working for you in 10, thats pretty good. My strategy is use the med as soon as I know I am going to get hit and cut it short, I hope. Mark
