Certain Marijuana

Ok, I'm a daily pot smoker. I've been a daily smoker for longer than I've had HA's. I noticed over the past few years, occationally, I'll get a batch that will bring on the beast. About an hour and a half after smoking, bang. But it's only certain marijuana that does this. I'm wondering if anybody else that will admit to smoking pot has also run into this? I think it's because some pot is chemically treated and I think it's the chemicals that do it. If anybody has a better guess, be my guest. Don't bother telling me it's bad and all that. I've heard it all.

There was a post within the last 2 months (?) where someone described all the different type of marijuanna, etc. The guy sounded like a chemist ... try and find that post and you may find your answer. Do some searches, you should be able to find it !

Used to smoke a lot of it back when it was relatively inexpensive and good to boot. Only thing - it bothered the CH - no matter what kind I smoked. So, it went into the "did not work" pile................

7yrschronic, 'Pot' has over 65 known (and more I'm sure, unknown) psychoactive components. Each strain is different, and within strains there can be hundreds of differences between plants because of growing conditions, nutrients, photosynthesis differences (lighting) and so on. Add to that, the different delivery mechanisms (joints, bongs, vaporization, ingestion, tinctures, concentrates) and the end-result in chemical make-up of what is being delivered, you can see that it's going to be quite difficult to make any substantive statements about how 'pot' may affect your headaches. All that being said, there is a growing mountain of evidence that there are specific receptors in your brain that react to these chemicals in very predictable ways. The problem is there hasn't been any standardization of the medicine to be studied. Without that, it's always going to be a crap shoot unless you know exactly what you're smoking and how it usually affects you. I have found both kids of pot... that which helps and that which tends to create headaches. I find that strains of Indica tend to be helpful, and the Sativa strains tend to create headaches (for me). YMMV. -Fu

I'm Chronic, and not all pot affects my CH. I'm just trying to figure out what causes certain pot to start a HA.

Well thank you fubar. I primarily only smoke a pipe. The occational bong or joint. I do know what to expect from the pot that I smoke. However the pot that will give me an ha I swear smells a little different. I don't know. I guess I never will, I'll just keep the O2 and Zomig close by. -Todd

7yrschronic, What I'm trying to tell you is, the researchers know that pot is psychoactive, but the rest is going to remain a mystery until some seriously funded research is undertaken to identify the exact compounds that produce the effects we want/need. When you smoke pot, you ingest a multitude of chemicals. Some may help your headache, some may induce a headache. It may be that the specific combinations you ingest help/hurt. It may be the delivery mechanism, and it might just be the particular bud that you smoked had the right combination. You just can't know. The best you can do is start keeping track (like a wine buff) of the different pot you have smoked and what it does to you. If you learn how to differentiate the various strains from eachother, you can start to avoid strains you think might be causing headaches. On the flip side, you can start seeking strains that you know treat you well. Until modern medicine steps up and does some serious research, you're on your own. -Fu

One more thing, If you want to do your own research, it might help to experiment with a technique called vaporization. Essentially, what you do is vaporize the chemical compounds instead of burning them. This means you're in much more control of the 'mix' of chemicals you are ingesting, becaue you are not actually burning the plant. The technique involves using a heat gun set at a specific temperature to vaporize (boil off) the active compounds without all the 'extra' goodies you get from burning the whole thing (like Carbon Monoxide, etc.) There is a site out there that talks about this.. www.vriptech.com -Fu

My experience - when I'm in cycle, I leave it alone. Doesn't necessarily bring on a stabber, but increases shadows and anxiety big-time. Out of cycle, it's my drug of choice, since I don't care for alcohol or any other drugs. So much for the "gateway" theory ...
