Lewis, You have posted on a board full of skeptics who have endured every kind of "snake oil" sales pitch you can imagine. I'm glad it worked for you, but: -What can you tell us about this? - Were you diagnosed as having Clusterheadaches? - Please tell us more about your symptoms. Marc

Hi Marc. I was diagnosed with clusters 15 years ago. The headaches were pure hell at best. They always hit me on the left side, above my eye, like someone stuck a knife in there. Most of the time it would wake me at 3:00 am with no let up.I would wake my wife, and go to ER for a shot that would last for 8-12 hours. The doc put me on Imitrex.I was up to 6 injections daily, thank god we have ins. that covered most of the expense. These clusters have made me cry like a baby, until i could get some relief.Hope that ansewered some of your questions.

I have an apt next week with a pain clinic. Can you tell me more about the megnetic pulse. What is the procedure like? Do you have any timeframe at all of your pain free period? Are we talking days, weeks, months, years? Were you chronic or eposodic? Thanks for any info.

Uh oh, Are we talking about the old "rare earth" magnets that you attach to Boji stones coated with Emu oil that you apply your Galactica thingy using the Unusual Hands On method?

Lewis, I am one of the skeptics Marc mentioned, and frankly I cannot imagine what is meant by a "Magnetic Pulse" procedure. Could you tell us more about it? I sure hope it has nothing to do with the scam of the horse and cat "doctor" Don linked to. Many a clusterhead hat an MRI scan, and that involves tirades of magnetic pulses. But it is not done in an attempt to stop clusters and I have never seen anybody claim it did. Also, it would be helpful to know a bit more about your 15 years cluster history. Were you chronic or episodic, and if the later how long were your cycles and how long your remissions? But most important, you surely must know when that treatment was, in other words, how long is your remission up to now? Ueli

As i stated,I am new here trying to do what i can to help you get relief,so if i make mistakes, dont flame me to bad,ok.I will try to explain as best i can. A magnetic pulse is a procedure they use to slow down the signal in the nerve that tells the brain that you have a headache.there is a cluster of nerves behind the bone below the eye, that is sending the signal.they go into that cluster, with needles, after they knock you out ,and apply heat to the nerve, like a laser burn, they moniter all this on screen so they find the right nerve to pulse, there is some pain involved, but nothing compared to a cluster. There are 3 clinics in USA that does this type of procedure.I had this done 3, months ago,i know not very long, but i have not had even a ghost of pain since.I had 4-6 ha. a day for about a year until i had this done.I am not trying to sell anyone on this, but i am pain free, and enjoying it,after 15 years of the demon.

Hmmm A cluster of nerves below the bone, behind the eye that is sending the signal. Nope don't think so. That may be part of the tri geminal nerve that is crushed, but it is not where the pain originates. The proceedure you describe, sounds like a partial nerve block, which in theory, although the signal is still sent you would not feel the pain. The problem is I suspect is relief will be temporary, they have not cut or killed the nerves or your face would look like Quasimodo's. I think you have had some form of temporary nerve block. That said I hope it works for you long term. Let us know. I don't think there will be queues forming to have this done, however I could be wrong. Steve

Just a question.... You were up to six (6) Injections of Imitrex daily..?? Now let's see, that is 6 X 6mg of Imitrex and that makes a total of 36 mg of Imitrex / day... A little to much is it not? Marty

For what it's worth, I was just informed (by someone I trust) that the magnetic pulse approach is used by: - Dentists for root related work - Control of certain types of seizures Back to my first post in this thread: "What can you tell us about this" proceedure? Need some details.

There must have been a great misunderstandin with the term "Magnetic Pulse" - that's a medically non approved humbug and is n e v e r applied "after they knock you down..." - or do stupid people who buy that crap "knock down" their pets before they apply those strange devices (look at the URL in Don's post !) ? Put "magnetic pulse" into the Google and look for the results like these: " Bio-Pulsetm Pulsing Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) Therapy for Dogs and Cats Respond Systems makes two new products to provide pain relief from common problems associated with hip dysplasia, arthritis, muscle, tendon or ligament injury, and old-age stiffness and soreness. PEMF can help your animal feel better, usually within 1-2 weeks. You will commonly see a difference in the way your dog gets up and around in the morning, with less stiffness, and more bounce to his step. You will notice your pet enjoys PEMF therapy, because they doze off as they are being treated. It is relaxing and pleasant. Many times, a dog or cat will place the injured, sore area right on the PEMF bed. ------------------------------------------- Pony-Pulse Pulsing Magnetic Field Therapy for Ponies! A Revolutionary Coil System Delivers Therapy Wherever The Problem Is. Pony-Pulse System Features Sore backs, stiff from workouts? Now use the same therapy on your pony as the Bio-Pulse system. Pony-Pulse Features: Mesh sheet (small & large) 4 Pulsing Coils Pulsing Generator Battery Charger Test magnet User Guide Optional Pulse dividers What is PMF therapy? A battery-powered computer pulses low voltage electrical current through coils of wire that are secured onto the blanket. When you expose bone and tissue to these pulsing magnetic fields, changes are produced at a cellular level that assist with pain relief, reduced swelling and inflammation and a healing process which may be faster, and result in improved strength. Use it daily for chronic conditions, use it twice daily for injury. All in a 30 minute treatment. --------------------------------------- Magnum's post: "there is a cluster of nerves behind the bone below the eye, that is sending the signal.they go into that cluster, with needles, after they knock you out ,and apply heat to the nerve, like a laser burn..." The described procedure is most probably the following one, i.e. one of the potentially crippleing trigeminal nerve dissections we CHeads don't appreciate very much: Percutaneous Stereotactic Differential Radiofrequency Thermal Rhizotomy, a surgical procedure that was developed in the 1960's and has been modified by physicians at the Massachusetts General Hospital for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. This procedure creates a precise thermal lesion of the trigeminal nerve which interrupts the transmission of pain signals to the brain, while preserving touch sensations of the face. Radiofrequency Thermal Rhizotomy does produce some mild numbness of the face in the region of the pain, which is usually quite tolerable. It does not effect the nerve function to the muscles of the face, therefore facial paralysis is not a concern. ----------------------------------------------------------- Magnum most probably has some numbness in the concerned side of his face after his "Magnetic Pulse" therapy...
