Blake is chronic..... However, the spring and fall are much worse. We call that his "chronic cycle". Do any of you other chronics notice this? ??? Jonny...we're still gonna go with the program we worked out Sat. night. I just got a call from him...he's getting the shit kicked out of him today at work. But we're still gonna try it. You'll be getting a report.. Jacks

Aw, Jackie - I'm sorry to hear about Blake. I don't know how you chronics and supporters do it. Hang in there, darlin - know that we're always here for YOU, too.

Jackie, I have good weeks and bad weeks but for me it's not seasonal at all. The only pattern I've been able to see is that I seem to get hit less when I'm under under very high stress. Marc

Yes Jackie, I go through months where it's a lot worse than usual, but it doesn't have anything to do with the seasons. Linda

I don't think it has anything to do with the seasons either. It's seems to be more a 'timing' thing. The spring months vary...often from late winter to early summer. It's just strange that it's so much worse two different times during the year. I will say that October is ALWAYS bad. His first cluster ever was in October....coincidence or what... ??? Jacks

I'm with Linda on this one. Some months get really heavy and others are lighter but I haven't noticed a correlation with the seasons.

jonny and lazy don't seem to go together. What was keeping jonny sidetracked for 5 days does interest me however. I doubt it had anything to do with metal and buffers.

hey thats a good question about holding a job. have any of you had to stop working because of the clusters? i was in the Air Force and they wanted to medically discharge me- i fought that (because i was not too terribly bright) and did eventually retire from the AF. However, holding a job in the "civilian" world has been challenging. I lost one job working in a juvenile hall because of the HAs. Now i work for a non-profit and i'm the manager but frankly i'm out of sick time and out of vacation time. Say, i have an idea. Since i'm up all night anyway, and work is where my computer is, maybe i should just work my way through the beast. seriously, have any of y'all tried diability or anything? talitha

You are elligble for the FMLA (family medical leave act) with clusters. This gives you an additional 12 weeks off. Whether it is with or without pay, and all depends on how your company handles disability and how long you have been with them. But you cannot be fired for using this time. Your human resource dept should be able to provide you with the proper paper work ... then you need to get your doc to fill it out, return it ... and wala. Hope that helped.

The good DR. Goadsby from the OUCH site sez................ "During the cluster period, attacks may recur once per week, or eight attacks per day may occur. Most patients experience one to two attacks daily. The individual attacks usually are brief, lasting 30 to 180 minutes each (mean, 45 minutes). Attacks tend to recur at the same time each day and are notable in that they often occur at night, awakening the patient from a sound sleep. A seasonal preponderance occurs, with cluster phase often occurring in the spring or autumn months." Tis the season has a new meaning. Hang in the Blake, we are pulling for ya! Mark

It sounds to me like chronics and episodics are more alike than it would seem on the surface. The difference being that in episodics the pain goes totally away during the "low" times, whereas chronics keep on getting hit, but at a different...frequency? level? If I pay attention, as staying with this site during remission has forced me to do, I notice small twinges that are cluster-like during my remission. I just wonder what it is that causes the difference. Sherry

I am chronic also. The winter months are far worst than the summer. I don't know why, don't think I ever will. I'm just glad winter is the slow season at my work.
