Weird Cycle

I started my cycle about three weeks ago. I usually have a 2 year break and then have clusters for anywhere from 1 1/2 months to 2 1/2 months. I have had them for 14 yrs now. I wondered if anyone else has had a weird one. I had them twice a day some very nasty some mild or as mild as clusters can be. But now I haven't had one for about a week. Can it be my cycle broke early or do I need to prepare myself for more. Just wanted someones opinion. The only thing I use is fiournal w/ codeine and a whole lot of head banging. My mom's cousin uses oxygen and it helps some but I have never tried it. Sherry

Sherry, your suffering sounds somewhat close to what my cycles do. Although I have suffered for 25 years now, many times the cycle does change. Have had some last for as long as 2 1/2 months......and when I'm blessed with a short one (which has been VERY seldom) it could have lasted for only about 3 weeks. Scared to say though that as I've gotten older, they have become longer and worse. Shucks, perhaps when I get as ole as Charlie here on the board, they may disappear and leave me alone all together (LOL) Good luck, and hope it is the end for you.......at least for this cycle EDNA

Sherry, You sound like me. I was on Fiorinal for years (which did nothing but knocked me out after the attack) and finally found this site in '98, and now I have meds that actually WORK! I can't say what your cycle is going to do, they are so unpredictable. But I STRONGLY advise reading everything on this site, all the buttons on the left and visit the OUCH site for meds info. And while you're at OUCH, sign up for a membership. Oxygen is a great abortive for lots of us, as well as imitrex injections. Good luck, welcome to the family, Mast

Wierd? From what I've learned (and experienced this last time around), "wierd" is the Beast's middle name! Yes, the cycles can be most unpredictable -- mine behaved exactly the same 5 times in a row (over a 10 year period) and then the last one I had was REALLY different. So much for predictability, right? Hang in there -- don't let the Beast's strange behavior scare you too much! Blessings to you and every one on the board! StanTheMan (Rock Chalk J-Hawk!)

I've had these things for almost 30 years. I used to get them twice a year, spring and fall lasting for 2 to 3 months then once a year, lasting up to 4 months then skipping a year then skipping 2 years, sometimes coming in the summer, a couple of cycles lasting 5 months. Just really unpredictable. Welcome to the board. Lots of info here and lots of support and lots of craziness. Sherry (also)

Originally my cycles were the exact same, time of year, number, and severity. This changed after I started using imitrex. I thought the change was due to imitrex but maybe it is just age changes. Now my cycles are much more random. The cycle length, number of headaches and severity change each time. Take care, SteveK

Hi Sherry, Welcome aboard ths crazy train, I have learned to expect the unexpected, when I think I am done, I am not, when I think a new med works, it dont, at least a preventive. I am into my third month of a cycle which I think is a new record for me in over 25 years of CH pain. This is a good place to educate yourself and go nuts at the same time, a trait most of dont seem to need much help with. This is one mean disease, the sonofabitch likes to sneak up on us when we are down, weak, or asleep. Hang in and hang on, Later, Mark

sernest, The Beast has his own schedule...I usually start in Sept. but this year it started in July. I usually end in Jan if it starts in Sept., but this year I'm stumped as to when it will end. I also swtich sides sometimes between cycles...oh yeah, TRY the O2 - it really works for most of us...and some preventatives would be a good idea too (verapamil....) Good luck! Jim R

Welcome the the madhouse. How is this for weird? While my episodics were pretty standard stuff (two or three cycles a year for a month or so) there were a couple of times when I'd have a three or four day cycle....usually in summer. I never understood it. Take care and keep in touch. Charlie
