Sorta CH related, question re heart

I had a cardiologist appointment yesterday to get the go ahead to use triptans, in particular frova as an abortive for my headaches. As seems to always be the way with me, a simple referral to get an A-OK for a med has turned into something quite different. I have now undergone ekg's, echocardiograms, stress tests, am on a 24 hour cardiac monitor and have to go for a nuclear stress test. Since I was kinda dumbfounded (not new I know hehe) I didn't really ask any questions cause I was really caught off guard. Are any of you CH'ers out there able to give me any info on what irregular T-waves and abnormal sinus rhythms mean and why do they do nuclear stress tests? i.e. what exactly are they looking for? I hate going to the Dr's anymore....I go in for a hang nail and end up with a heart attack....sheesh!!!! Thanks bunches for any info you guys can give Cat

I have just taken the nuclear-test myself Cat.Its the best test to see the blood-flow trough your heart. You gonna take picture of your heart 2 times. With stress and under rest. They are using a stuff that is natural in your body to stress your heart. Nothing to it. When the stuff is working you will breath like you are running marathon for a couple of minutes, but thats all. Just got a answer on that test, and i`m waiting on Nov 25.Thats the day they are deciding to do a "outblocking" or bypass on me. They are gonna do a angiography first . Other then that im just fine and feeling just marvelous as always Svenn

Some years back, I was found to have an abnormal EKG during a routine physical. Had a SPECT (single photon emission computerized tomography) scan of my heart done. Shot me with some stuff and took pics of my heart. Then they took me upstairs, ran me on the treadmil until I was ready to fall, shot me with more stuff and took some more pics. Verdict is left bundle branch block. The electric signal to the left side of my heart is gone so it borrows it's signal from the right side causing it to beat less than correctly. Despite this heart malfunction, I still use cafergot and triptans with no ill effects.

Cat~~~ I am rooting for you... I hate doctors tests been going through a few lately myself... I'm praying that everything is normal so you can take the meds you need... curious though... to you guys that have had these common heart ailments do you think the triptans had anything to do with the problems??? Do you think the problems have anything to do with Ch ??? The reason I am curious is because Dave had knee surgery last year and they almost didnt do it because they said the same thing about his T-waves being abnormal... then another doc came in checked him out and they did the surgery... I didnt understand what any of that meant. If you find out more please post it... thanks love to you Cat and your family... good luck Ree

Hi Ree my friend I can only talk to myself here My case of heartproblems is definatly NOT medical-related. Its family-related from both sides. What a "gift" of genes i got from my parents. I have used up to 10 imitrex-shots a day without any problems at all. Both my cardio and my neuro says that its not medical-related. The only thing i`m sure about is that my mother had migraine. I'm trying to find out info on the T-wave thing Ree, I think it's kind of interesting that there's more than one of us with T-wave abnormalities.... but I suppose there are so many of us that it probably isn't significant. As for the imitrex, I haven't been allowed to use the triptans at all, they used it once in the ER and it took 2 hours for the hot flushed feeling to go away so they told me I couldn't use any triptans anymore. What bob said is the best info I've found on it so far, is it has to do with bundle branch..the electrical wiring in the heart as opposed to the actual chambers and arteries and stuff. So the wiring is messed up hehe, just like our hypothalamus, we have messed up wiring all over I guess LOL If I find more info Ree I'll send it on to you, I've been finding alot but since I know nothing about cardiology it's hard to interpret all those damn little squiggles on the pages hehe. I know what each one is called now though! LOL Cat I also have a lovely genetic gift of heart disease from my family

Cat, My wife has the same problems with her heart except that she also has a irregular heart rate and it can be 40 bpm one day and 140bpm the next. The Docs. did all the tests and found nothing wrong. She can't take any kind of stimulate or she is at 240 bpm. The only solution is to ignore it or get a pace maker. She has found some relief with the vitamins CO-Q10 and a B-complex. PJB
