I JUST FOUND YOU GUYS!

Hi everyone, I just found this site tonight and have learned so much already. I have been having CH for 21 years now but only during the months of sept and oct. For many years I just endured the hell because nothing the Drs. prescribed worked. I would just consume massive doses of advil, pace and wait...Last year I took Inderal and was pain free for the 2 months and this Sept also but last night the devil came back in full force, if I had a gun in my hand I would have blown my head off! Went back to Dr. today and he gave me Imitrex pills to take with the Inderal, hope it works. Ive read alot of you guys take the injection, was wondering if the pill is as good? I'm so glad to have found this place, thanks everyone!

Hey Suzy!
Welcome aboard! The pill will work, but it takes awhile to get in your system, sometimes 30 minutes to take affect. The injections work anywhere from seconds to 5 or 10 minutes.

Hi suzy,
It takes longer for the pill to get into my system than it does for the CH to go away. 1/3 of a shot of imitrex and bye bye beast.

Thanks for the reply guys, wish I would have argued more with the Dr. about the injection then although I probably will if I get another attack tonight!

Suzy - Talk to your doc about oxygen. A lot of us use it to abort with and it has no nasty side effects. Read up on how to use it properly (non-rebreather mask, 10 to 15 lpm). For many of us, it stops the beast cold.

Go to the buttons on the left and look up "imitrex tip"....check out all of those little buttons and get that printer smokin! ;D Take the end results to your neuro and start makin real conversation with him/her. there are so many options available to you - half of which your neuro knows diddley about. If you are ready, start TEACHING the DOC. It's gonna help YOU in a big way.

Suzy,
Another option is the Imitrex spray. It works for me in about a minute. The injection works a bit quicker, but if you don't like needles, the spray is an excellent option.

Suzy, welcome to the board.
The spray took way too long for me to work. The injection is actually done with an epipen. So all you do is push it up against your thigh (wherever) and push a button. Its not really like giving yourself an injection and they work great in no time flat !!!!! Give it a shot as they say. Just an FYI - I do not take the pen apart and give myself a partial dosage though ... not sure how that works.

thanks again for all the great info! Midnight rolled around last night and once again paced the floors for an hour. Stupid me didnt fill my rx last night, was too tired but will the get it today for sure. The night before the intense pain was around 30 min., last night over an hour, geez, is it going to keep getting longer? If pill doesnt help next round, i will fight for the injection. Hey, if anything, I'll probably lose some weight walking the halls....Not having pain from CH for almost 2 years makes you forget a little about the patterns, this really suxs....

welcome to the board suzy. sorry to hear you been sufferen' for 21 years (only 5 for me) glad you found us. i also take immitrex injections, the pills & nasal spray didn't do a damn thing for me, with the shot it's gone in 5 to 8 mins. i also use 02 to abort, 15 lpm for 15 mins. ..........2late

G'day Suzy, I too have suffered for many years not really knowing what was really going on.Imigran Injections for me are the best thing but at $60(aus) each you tend to do a few dances aswell.
O2 is another one that works but not all the time.

imitrex injections for me; tried the pills and the nasal spray, both did nothing; but who knows.....they may work fine for you......that's the mystery here......what works for one may not be the exact thing for someone else

Well I went out for a couple drinks with friends last night and for the first time during the day my head felt good but when I laid my head on the pillow the HA almost immediately started so I popped my first Imitrex and within 6 to 8 minutes (last i looked at the clock)I feel asleep so I guess it worked, also woke up in middle of night PF, finally got a good nights sleep, I am a happy camper today!! Thanks again all for your great input!
