Ok folks, I'm new here and Im in a bit of a quandry. I would like to find out about any symptoms people have Before an episode happens. From what I have read I cant seem to find mine. (an audiable ticking sound in my head followed by bright flashes when it hits). I quess (after reading most of the web site) that I'm lucky I have only had 4-5 episodes in the last 6 years. usually 2 a couple of weeks apart. and lasting from 5 mins for the initial pain  to about a half hour to an hour for it to subside.

jeeze I am lucky I though I was having 'mini'strokes.

Have you taken the cluster quiz?  The link is to the left side of the screen.  Your symptoms don't sound like clusters at all.  Not the sound, light, or duration.  Is it possible you have had a misdiagnosis or are you trying to self diagnose?  I would recomend getting a second opinion.

I usually began to think about them. I don't think that caused them. There was likely some little signal that my brain received. It seemed to happen frequently.

Don't know about the sound, but the only thing I know about that has light flashes is a detached retina (my eye doc warned me of this as I have a 50/50 chance)

But I agree, get a second opinion.

Well,
I have taken the quiz, which came up on the positive side. And my doctor has told me in all likelyhood I do have CH. I was just trying to get some insite on the precursers of an attack. Does it just 'come out of the blue'  for most folks or are there some signs that your going to have one?

Michael - mine have always just hit out of the blue. They start out around mid kips of 5 or 6 and then build over the course of several weeks. I am episodic with cycles lasting from 8 weeks to 16 weeks. This cycle (my third) I started Verapamil, along with Imitrex and Oxygen for aborting the attacks. After three weeks of very low dosages of Vera (180 mg/day) I have been PF for 10 or 11 days now.
But there have never (that I can think of) been any warning signs - no high stress, physical trauma, sickness, etc. that could be tied to them.
good luck in finding the right set of meds, and I hope you've joined OUCH to support finding a cure for this damn horrid condition
