Hey-oh... new guy here...

Just want to say hello to everyone, and give some thanks to the creators of this site.  I'd been wondering if anyone else out there suffered the same way I do.  I'm glad to know I'm alone, and at the same time, am not.

I've never had one below a 10 on the kip... I'm 22 now and can remember having migranes as a child, and wish I could have them back instead.  Their always on the left side, and always at the temple.  I'd describe it as a rusty dagger being drivin into my scull with a sledge hammer, and someone occasionally comming along and tapping it in farther, just for a little extra spice.

Living alone doesn't help either.  I usually have to call someone to rush me to the ER, where all the staff is walking around with their thumbs up their a**es, wondering why someone came to the ER for a little headache.  I'd been given morphine IVs on several occasions, 3 doses one night, and still didn't get it under a 10....

Hi Dan!

Sorry you're suffering, but glad you found us.  Lots of good information on this site.

Since you've dealt with "the Beast" for some time, I assume you've been seen by a specialist (neurologist).
There are a number of medications that DO work, and a specialist can certainly help you with that.

Again, welcome...hang in there, and God bless.

Actually, I was given some migranol spray... it helps.. but only if it's within reach..

I tend to get them seasonally, but I skipped a year in 2000.  I thought that I'd never get anymore, but it struck again in '01.  Now I'm just sitting and waiting to see if I get some more this year.

Mine never really go away when I'm having a cluster.  I can tell that I've got one, it's just so faint that it doesn't really hurt... it just kinda hangs out and whispers to me to let me know it's gunna sucker punch me when I'm not looking.

Come to think of it... I'm getting a pressure in my temple now... wonder if it's gunna hit me...

Yeah.. I tried the Imitrex... it didn't even phase it.

The Migranol works wonders for me... but I'm in construction, and being on the road alot, I can't always have it with me if I get a CH.  Plus you have to keep it at a steady temperature, so keeping some in the glove box is a "no-no"....

I'm just hoping that I have more "off" years than "on" years...

I couldn't even imagine what it must be like for some of you that have to deal with these things year in and year out... hopefully I won't have to worry about that.  Hopefully.

Hi! I'm pretty new myself-it really helps to have people that understand to commiserate with.  I agree with the others- a good neuro is a big help and keep trying meds until you hopefully get lucky-

hi
im new here too.  Ive read the info on the boards but I never interacted before.  I think maybe I need a little support from someone who knows what I go through.Last group of headaches was so bad.  My neuro made me worse by pushing Topamax on me, saying he didnt understand why it wasnt working and upping the dose.  I think it made me worse.  Ive never had such long lasting pain before.  7-8 hour headaches, that never went away completly.  I said my goodbyes to my children, and husband and swallowed about 10 percocets that my husband had for his back , I ran in and made myself throw them up, and wound up in the hospital for three days after I told my neuro what happened.  I have never sunk so low.  all I could think about was killing myself,  I am telling all clusterheads to watch out for Topamax, I think that drug made my head feel worse and it made me even more depressed than I normally am when I am having headaches.  Now I am on a light steroid, and light dose of Lithium.  I dont care about the side affects. I feel better for the time being, but I feeel they are not far away.

Glad you decided to come here. We all know what this thing does to ones outlook. You made the right choice and your family needs you. It's a good idea to live for all those pain free days as well.

Topamax is an anti-epilepsy drug that can be very effective. It's a little tricky for some but it won't hurt you. This drug takes a little time to reach a therapeutic level and also should be tapered off slowly should it not be helpful.

Keep in touch and let us know how we can help. There are good ideas here.  How are you doing?

As it says below my post:  When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on.
