Hello all, I am new to this group. I have had a burning nose and horrible headaches for going on 7 years. To make a long story as short as I can... I have had 3 sinus surgerys and been to doctors all over the US. My nose feels like there is salt up it and my headaches can only be controlled somewhat with Imitrex. I take 3 shots some weeks. This has ruined my life. I have been to every kind of doctor there is. I have "not" ever been able to find anyone with this problem. Surely I am not that unusual... I have decided I have some kind of vascular problem. Maybe a reaction to chemicals...?? ??? ???

Sounds nasty Sofie. I've not had the nasal trouble other than some increase in congestion during a cluster attack. What you have may well be clusters. Clusters are so painful that one cannot sit still. They will wake one out of a sound sleep. They are normally centered behind the eye and the lower forehead. They are known by many as vascular headaches and usually last from a few minutes to a couple hours. The pain will normally very quickly almost "drain" away until the next attack and there are usually several a day. It would help to read the information listed at the left side of the board and take the cluster quiz. It will help you to learn more about this horror. Stick around and tell us more. Welcome aboard. I'm afraid mine aren't cluster after taking the test. It is never gone. My nose burns "all" the time and it used to swell almost shut before my sinus surgerys. It just burns and swells and finally turns into an awful headache, so bad I end up on the floor..and in ER if I don't take the Imitrex shots. They stop the headache, but my nose continues to burn. I have had a continual headache for almost 7 years. It started all at once with a funny acheing in my nose.. within 2 weeks I was in ER with a horrible headache.

Think yourself fortunate that you do not have clusters. They are so painful that they have been called "suicide headaches." So far as we know this is incredibly rare. Whatever you have, it's certainly less painful. My suggestion is to try Massachusetts General Hospital. There will be pages devoted to headaches of all kinds as well as just about everything. It's huge and I don't have a specific link. It wiil be there somewhere. Maybe someone here will have one for you. MGH treats just about everything Here is the general link: http://www.mgh.harvard.edu/ I wish you the best of luck. Charlie

Thanks for responding to my plea.. I'm thankful my headaches aren't "that" bad, however it would be nice to have just one hour without pain. Not knowing what is causing them is stopping me from getting any help other than Imitrex shots. I take so many of them that I worry about the effects on me. I even have my headaches all night. I never really get any good sleep... Without the Imitrex shots I could not live. I would end my life too if someone didn't intervene.
