I don't know if I am an exception to the case. I have read in numerous documents that these cluster headaches start to surface when an individual is in their 20's or 30's. I have records and documentation that I have had these headaches since the age of 6. Why me? Now as I am 34 yrs old. .the headhaces are no longer uniform. There more intense, frequent and with relentless vengeful pain. I don't know what to do. Then I did some research and there are other treatments which I have not been priviledged to be a part of? Why? Why is that everytime I go to the Emergency Room the shoot me up with Demerol and Phenergan or Nubaine which only make me sleepy and don't take the pain away. And the ER staff treat me as if I were a drug seeker. I used to say I wouldn't wish these headaches on my worst enemy. However, I would like the doctors and nurses at my local hospital to experience these headaches for a week and tell me if they aren't desparate for help.

While the trip to the ER can give you temporary relief, my suggestion would be to find a neuro who understands CH and get on a preventative program. There are numerous singular and combination meds that can help some sufferers. CH meds work differently for everyone. The information available on this site and the OUCH site can help inform you of possibilities. Welcome to the group.

Ditto to what Echo said. Find yourself a decent Neuro or a headache center and get the correct medications prescribed for you. Read all the info on the left, join OUCH and print out info to take with you to your doctor. I took a huge file of information with me to my doctor the first time and she was very grateful to have it. Best of luck and welcome. Chris L

Don't lose hope. We all have asked why at one stage or the other. One thing I've learned here is that this is the place to get support and expert advise from people who suffered long and knows all the tricks. It is like echo says, some meds will work some won't, but it is worth your while to try everything until you find what works for you. Hang in there!

Clusters aren't supposed to start until ppl are in their 20's or 30's? Damn... I wish someone would've told my beast that. I knew he showed up way too damn early. Oh... btw... My advice... Listen to the others, and see a neuro. PFDAN.......................... Drk^Angel

I'd like to share what I read from Terry Waite, held as a prisoner for many years in solitary confinement, I think for his religoius and political beliefs. He wrote that it was really really hard to see no-one day after day; to eat slops and poor food that he knew was making him sicker,to worry about his family and that his despair was deep. At times, he'd ask himself that same question: "Why ME?" He said that the answer came to him one dark and lonely night, and was irrefutable. "Why NOT?" I think that its just the random nature of the entire universe. Altho' we are told there are reasons for everything there are some things that have no reason. They just are. They become our challenges, and if they don't kill us, they do make us stronger. There seems to be no reasonable answer to why some humans suffer CH. However, you've found this site, and now are connected to people who do understand, and are ready, willing and able to help. Their advice sure has helped me, and I've made some wonderful friends, who truly understand what happens when one's life is interrupted by CH. Hang in there bro' (as we say down here in Kiwiland) You are not alone! Wishing you PFDAN and peace firebrix

Nice post brix. By the way, as an aside, he wasn't a political prisoner by any gov't but was a hostage negotiater who was himself taken hostage by terrorists after freeing a bunch of other hostages in the Mideast.

No one knows "why me." Personally, it only reinforces my belief in randomness......not that that does much to ease pain. Actually, I have been in remission for many years and "why me" still comes to mind. Anyway, seeing a neurologist who will help you find combinations of drugs, O2 perhaps and other things will likely be helpful. There are many good ideas here as well and I recommend sticking around. Amidst all our nonsense, you'll find some good ideas. Let us know how you're making out or if we can be of help. Charlie

Eric, I know exactly where you are coming from. I was 7 when my CH hit. Was miss diagnosed twice before I was 22 and even had a neuro.( Who had a headache clinic) tell me there wasn't anything wrong with me except being depressed. I wanted to yell at her that she would be depressed too if she was in pain!!! Hang in there, there is hope. Take everybodies advice and find a good neuro. who understands and is willing to try things to help. I finally found someone and you will too. Sue Ellen

We wish there were devices that would help CH. So far nothing yet. There are some cranks around but that's about it. Sad to say. Charlie
