Cluster headaches in the "news"

INDIO (AP) A Colorado Springs woman accused of arranging the kidnapping of her 9-year-old son from her ex-husband's California home said she does not know how her son showed up in her hotel room after he was kidnapped at gunpoint. Debra Rose, 38, was charged with two counts of child abduction, one count of felony burglary and one count of felony assault for the abduction of her son, Nicholas Farber, who was taken at gunpoint Aug. 28 by two masked assailants who broke down the door to his father's Palm Desert home. Rose, of Colorado Springs, Colo., was ordered held on $1 million bail, with a bail review hearing scheduled Friday at the request of her attorney, Joellen Plaskett. The defense attorney also asked authorities to keep Rose at the Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, saying deputies have moved her seven times since she was arrested Friday. After divorcing third husband Michael Farber, a Palm Springs disc jockey, Rose married Stanley Rose of Colorado Springs, with whom she had two children. It was Stanley Rose who took out a restraining order against Rose, accusing her of making harassing telephone calls. Rose suffers from severe migraine-like "cluster headaches," for which she takes medication, Plaskett said. Both Stanley Rose and Farber have accused Debra Rose of being an unfit mother because of the medications she takes to treat her migraines. A judge discounted the charge in Rose's custody battle with Stanley Rose.

Slammy, Which web site did you get that from? I would like to send them an e-mail pointing out their ignorant mistake. They really need to know that everyone else knows CH and migraine are different and they are the only dummies in town.

Actually in the "living section" of the Patriot news (Harrisburg PA) and also in another local newspaper there was an article on cluster headaches. It was the "the doctor's corner" type thing where they give you info on diseases, etc that people don't normally know about. So I guess PA is an up an coming state with keeping up with the latest medical info ....... 2LATE ... was anything in the Pittsburgh paper ? Or perhaps DRK would know. It wasn't a bad article ... pretty accurate ... I didn't like the comment "you must stop smoking immediately if you suffer from this disease" .... never read that before and my neuro had told me not to bother quitting ... it wouldn't get rid of the headaches.

Not the one Slammy. That link just says migraine like "cluster headaches", which I can live with. The one above says that same phrase but in the next paragraph talks about the meds she takes for her migrianes.

Nancy... I think that may be the same article that appeared in most newspapers. It's a syndicated section of the paper like "Dear Abby". Dunno if it appeared in the papers around here... Don't normally read the paper. Too expensive. PFDAN.............................. Drk^Angel

The meds she takes for her "migraines" might not be migraine/CH meds at all. Could be prescribed meds rxed by a no nothing doctor Rxing all but the correct drugs. How often have we seen this happen? I would be curious to know just what meds they are "blaming " it on. There are no CH meds I know of that would cause me to kidnap someone at gunpoint but not remember doing it.

Found this at http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/state/article/0,1299,DRMN_21_13573 60,00.html ... Court records also show that Debra Rose had a long history of using morphine and other heavy narcotics, which were prescribed by doctors as treatment for chronic migraine headaches. Her drug use was cited in her ex-husbands' battles to obtain custody of her children. Stanley Rose stated in a court affidavit that Debra would go to the hospital emergency room every seven to 10 days for an injection of morphine, then sleep for two days, rendering her incapable of caring for their children. Rose had obtained custody of his two children, Dane and Winter. Debra Rose was given only visitation rights after a court-appointed psychologist declared that he believed she had a borderline personality disorder and health problems involving her use of narcotics and should not be the "primary residential parent." ... "She can go to the emergency room and be injected with morphine anytime she wants it. She is taking Demorol on top of that and 30 miligrams of Valium a day on top of that," said Ciccolella. I've read more than 2 dozen stories about this case, and other than the one that Slammy posted, I've only found one story that mentioned clusters, at it said her attorney said that she was in the medical center for treatment of "cluster or migraine" headaches. It seems there's either a possibility that she doesn't actually have clusters, or yet another example of the press and others not knowing what the hell they're talkin' about. Crap. Some time ago I did what Bob said he was thinking of doing. I wrote a couple lines about CH. Who knows? It was harmless I guess. It's impossible to know anything at all from reading about stuff like this...especially most junk on the internet. Charlie

The sleeze-bag lawyer is just using the headaches as an excuse for taking drugs. No lawyer is going to admit to a judge or jury that their client is an un-fit mother, child abusing junkie.

You know, I've been on massive amounts of demorol when I had reconstructive knee surgery, and it did not conjure up desires to kidnap or abuse someone. Though it did cause me to yell " Thatababy!!!!" and high-five all the nurses that walked by!   Slammy
