And the new drug of the week is

Catapres! Also known as clonodine. Just got back from the neuro's office. We're going to try this to control the CH AND get my blood pressures down so I can more safely use Amerge (naratripatan) as an abortive instead of percocet when the O2 fails. I'll still be be on the 480 mg. of verapamil. He also wants to keep Topamax, albeit at a MUCH lower dose and lithium on the back burners in case Catapres fails too and he says that we should explore all the triptans recognizing that for me as we try them out each one has more risk than Amerge with Imitrex (sumatriptan) having the most. He also stated that if no drug could be found that works there were pain programs where fentanyl or oxycontin could be administered in 12 hr. dosages (e.g. patches) but that I would be addicted at the end of my cycle and would then have to deal with getting off that, and that is one big issue - yes, indeed - one BIG issue, an issue that I will avoid at all cost if I can, but I also will not live in agony. I had a CH when he came into the waiting room with tears running down the right side of my face (I'm sure my eye was blood shot), my upper teeth feeling like they were going to explode and my nose all blocked on that side. I said, "Oh, how fortuitous - you've cought me right smack dab in the middle of one." - I actually did think it lucky he saw me in one so he could see what I looked like... Quite frankly, with all my medication changes, CH's, interrupted sleep, etc., I feel beat-up and exhausted. BUT, hope springs eternal and maybe this Catapres will do the trick. PFDAN's to you all and to all a good night. Jim R

Keep us posted. One of my kids was on that to control tremmors from taking Ritalin. He's off it now and we have a stash at home. Who knows -- the way they keep messing with different combinations the scientists may discover that snorted yak dung will be the next cure all. It will make taking the kids to the zoo a whole new experience.

Thanks for all your good wishes! I gotta say this: Catapres sure has brought my blood pressure down - this morning it's 133/73!   Looks like Amerge is going to be in my immediate future   and maybe it will act as an effective preventative in conjuction with verapamil. But now I'm on three drugs that cause constipation... I'm drinking metamucil but nothing's happening....uh oh... Jim R

Charlie - Thanks my friend - feel like I'm on a drug merry-go-round! One of these weeks, they're going to come up with something that works (at least a little I hope!) Jim R
