Okay need help having bad day

I'm getting hit one after another with no more than 20 min. in between, each one lasting 3 hours and all in the kip 6 range. Spent an hour on the O2 at 15lpm no alleviation, Ice packs, A/C, coffee, I don't know what else to do and I have no other meds that I can take. None of them are suitable for me. I don't even have any pain killers to take the edge off so I can surf this out. This has been going on since 8:30 this morning and I'm at the end of my rope. Hubby is deployed, I'm on my own with 3 kids and am in tears and ready to go stick my head under the tire of a moving vehicle. Cat

Cat, Oh God how I wish I could send you something that would work! Have you tried Charlie's remedy? If not, look for it under my post entitled Unrelenting. Hang in there Cat. We're with you. Jim R

A technique of mine, that I believe works on a similar level to Charlie's technique, is to find a hard, immobile object... Wall, desk, floor, etc. Place your hands lightly against the surface of the object (if it's a desk or something else you can place your hand on top of, rest the weight of your hands on the object.) Now concentrate on pushing against the object without physically pushing. Just think of yourself, pushing out from your hands against the object. Feel the force of your body moving through your arms, to your hands, and against the object. Imagine you can move the object just by willing it so, without physically pushing on it. You can let the muscles of your arms tense, but don't put physical pressure between your hands and the object. Your hands may start feeling warm, and sweat. To add a visualization aspect to the technique, imagine the object you have your hands on is the beast (however you may picture it) and try to push the beast away from you, but without physically pushing. Of course, like many techniques like this, it takes a lot of concentration, and as we all know, it can be hard to concentrate during an attack, but I believe that this may help ppl that have had difficulty performing Charlie's technique. I think this has a similar effect in that it helps redirect blood towards your hands, but if worked on enough and hard enough, could help one reach a sort of meditative state. This is very similar to the technique that has helped me deal with many different types and degrees of pain and other difficulties. PFDAN............................... Drk^Angel

Catlind, Can you get someone to watch the kids for you? If you can do so. Next have you tried a cold shower? More coffee and a dark room? The only thing that I ever found to take the edge away when I had nothing else was Ibuprofin.. Hang in there... Sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time... Bye for now... Dan H

Cat, I agree, Try Charlies method. I've been trying to practice it when I'm not getting hit, so I can do it a little bit better than you if you haven't ever tried it before. It does help Cat. It also takes patience, so keep trying it. I also believe it was what helped me when I was at my daughters side during the delivery of her baby, & and started to get hit. I couldn't just leave, I was out of Imitrex anyway, so I started doing it right there. I was able to detain it for quite a while til I could leave the room. I'm hoping you can find someone to take care of your kids for a few hours too. Hope that's possible. Linda

Dan, I would give my eye teeth to have someone come watch the kids, but unfortunately over the last 2 months all my sitters have moved away. My neighbo(u)r would do it in a heartbeat, but she had to work today and has a meeting tonight. It's just one of those days. I did get a 30 min. reprieve, and immediately took Ayden (2yr) out for a walk to get some blood flowing and then sucked some more O2, but it's coming back on. Seems like it's just going to be one of those days when I just have to deal with it. What was most frustrating was that my Doctor refused to give me anything at all to help. O2 is the only I have to battle this beast, and when you go beyond a 6 O2 isn't enough to abort for me. I can't take the triptans, heart related issues, and most of the preventatives are the same story, and I refuse to go back on prednisone again, the side effects can kill you, clusters can't. Unfortunately my only combo is O2 and pain meds when it hits above what O2 can handle, and now I can't even get them. I'm sick to death of being accused of being drug seeking, or a drug addict or all the rest of the BS. It's just one of those days. I'm still trying to adjust to hubby being deployed again (he was home for a total of 4 months out of this year) and then I get nailed with a monster attack that just barely finishes before the next witching hour sets in, and my Dr. decides that I should see someone else. Joy Oh Bliss. Feeling somewhat better, sitting around a kip 4 so hopefully it won't go higher. I sat and seriously contemplated what taking excessive amounts of Aleve and Ketoprofin would do to my liver and kidneys and whether they would touch my headache at all. Ah well, at least I know it will pass. That's the only thing keeping me moving forward. Ayden's in bed, and I'm putting the older 2 to bed early so I can be alone to deal with the demon. Alex (10yr) was very helpful today and kept giving me hugs and asking what he could do for me, he's a sweetheart. Andrea (8yr) knows she gets on my nerves when I'm having an attack so went down to a friends to play. God I love my kids Thank you everyone for the support. I had tried everything everyone suggested, this was just one of those days when nothing would work I guess. Although I think the walk helped work the circulation like Linda suggested Cat - better days ahead I'm sure

Cat, try tabasco under tongue (I actually put a drop in my nose, but everyone says I'm crazy, however it did abort a few ch's and the burn helps to distract..and..under the tongue didn't work for me) Also try ice pack on the bottoms of your feet, that has aborted quite a few for me. I sit in chair with feet resting on ice pack. Also if just feet doesn't work, I add one to the head. Hope you feel better soon! Drk, I like the idea of your technique. That I could do. But I would do it like on the martial arts movies, you know when they make lightning arc from one hand to the other. I'm tryin that next cycle. My problem with Charlies technique (no offense Charlie) is that my mind, analytical as crap, cannot get past the idea that blood can't flow backwards and I can't get my head around dealing with the whole circulatory system to try to get the blood to go more to my hands, which is the only way my overly perfectionist mind will allow me do it. Perversely, it will allow me to try to shoot lightning bolts from my hands! LOL I am soooo weird. Sherry

Drk, I really like the idea of that technique. I was trying a variation on Charlies technique, a lobsang rampa thing actually, where you visualize your body as a factory and slowly have the 'workers' shut everything down and go home for the day, always works for me to go to sleep, but I can't make them shut down the valves in my brain yet, haven't been able to concentrate enough to do it and I'm not sure I wanna do it when not in an attack LOL. I'm going to practice the hand over desk thing while not in an attack so that I can do it when getting hit. I'm hoping that was the last round with the beast for this cycle, I'm feeling fine today so far, but I still have 15 min. before my 8:30 a.m. witching hour LOL Thanks again everyone, your support is SOOOOOOOO appreciated I can never repay you. Cat

Cat, I have a method that stops some attacks. I give the beast a time limit, ussally ten minuites, I count down every minuite and when time is up I expect the beast to go. I lie down in faith that the pain will leave.

Hey Cat -- hang in there! I don't know if this helps, but when I have a bad one and I'm out of PK's, I use ziplocks: one of them with water as hot as the faucet will go, the other with 2 icecubes and I alternate. Unfortuately, the hot one gets cold too quick so I have to get up a lot but it's the only thing I have. Also, something I learned a long time ago from someone who did acupunture: (if on the right side of your head), squeeze very hard on your left hand in the space just between your thumb and pointer finger there's a tender spot of just muscle - squeeze/press with your other thumb and pointer finger and it will numb the pain for about a minute when it gets to it's absolute worst. I use this when I have to drive through blinding pain. God -- I feel so bad that you're going thru this alone. Don't stick your head under a moving vehicle, it won't leave a very good looking corpse. Hang in there!!!!!
