Do you think there will ever be a cure????????????

Wondering if anyone seriousely thinks there will be a cure in the next 40 years. I think a cure would be achievable because my view is that it lies in the pain free periods between cycles. IF they can figure out why we have cycles with no pain then this could be helpful. BUt I doubt they will find on cause know one cares about CH's and there isnt even a cure for migrains or aids yet so Im doubtful.

I believe that a cure should be obtainable, but that the drug companies will never fund the project, because they'll make more money treating the symptoms, than curing the disease. Maybe we'll get lucky someday, and a rich clusterhead will give their millions to finding a cure. PFDAN............................. Drk^Angel

Honestly, I don't think we will see a cure in our lifetime. Maybe, but maybe in the future. But truthfully, the way this country goes and I think a lot of the rest of the world too, I believe they will figure out a way to prevent it, before they would find a cure. And, for prevention to happen...well it means that they will have figure out how to manipulate our genes...meaning that they will eventually try to create the perfect being. And that.... scares the hell out of me. That though, will get all the funding it needs whether by legal or nefarious means. It is already going on. Sherry

A cure? In 40 years? Sure I'm not sure it will be a cure but some very effective way to manage this horror so it isn't debilitating. Who knows? It may be some sort of pacemaker arrangement that you can apply or some other way to turn off the pain. I bet it will be a lot sooner too. Hopeful Charlie

Ree... I have plenty of faith... I have faith that doctors like the good Prof Goadsby will continue to make strides towards figuring out the cause of CH, and maybe along those lines find a way to prevent them, and maybe someday cure them. But I'm also a realist... And In reality for a project specifically geared towards curing CH to gain momentum in the near future, the pharmaceuticals will have to help fund the project, and to the drug companies, all we are is a very tiny slice of a very large pie. Look at it this way... Take the price of Imitrex, multiply it by the number of clusterheads (I know not everyone uses Imitrex, but most ppl use a similarly overpriced drug), multiply that by average number of attacks per year for a clusterhead, and multiply that by 10... 20... 30... 40 years that a clusterhead might have to suffer with this curse. That number is most like no where near accurate, but it'll give you the idea of what the drug company sees when they think of us, and what they'll have to give up if a cure is found. But I was wrong before... We do have one more hope... Somewhat dim now, but could very likely change if we want it to bad enough... That hope is, that we become more than a line item on the drug companies' revenue list. The only way to do that is by becoming more than just a few small individuals in the crowd... By becoming one large group working together to make our voices heard. So maybe instead of dwelling on whether or not a cure will be found in our lifetimes, we should help to make OUCH the group that will demand change. Even if the changes doesn't occur during our lifetimes, hopefully we'll be able to bring about changes for our children, and our children's children. So far all y'all that think you should sit back and have everyone else worry about things, or have yet to even join OUCH, get off your ass, and as Jonny would say, start rowing... This boat ain't going to propel itself. PFDAN........................ Drk^Angel

I am not real optimistic, that a cure will be found. There is no cure for migraines either and they are well known.. I feel its like cancer…I believe they have already found a cure for cancer but should a cure be made public. Think of all the people that would be out of a job in the medical field. I think it is the same thing with clusters, and Migraines. How many headache clinics do we have now? To me they are three big rip offs, Insurance, government and Doctors. We have all been screwed some how by one or more of them. I think there is already a way to control our clusters, and keep the pain at a low level…I think the meds are out there. I found mine. It took a lot of trial by error on my part playing with different meds, and different amounts of meds. I found it I still have clusters but the pain level is low and the attacts are not as often. I think the hope lies in ourselves to research and find what works for us. I mean hell women being going through the change of life since the beginning of time and no one has found a cure for all these damn hot flashes that keep us up all night, with the air on 65! I am going to go now and lie under the air condition vent and cool off. !!!!

A cure? I think I would be much happier if they positively established the cause first, obviously different in each individual, as this would enable CH sufferers to work on their own "cure" without being reliant on the multi-corporate drug companies. A cure for the pain would be heavenly but surely a "solution" to the cause would be more beneficial for all concerned? Sid

I think there will be better ways to handle this animal very soon. 40 years - sure As someone else posted elsewhere on the board, if I have to have clusters, I want it to be in this day and age. Information is exploding, and each minor find, adds up to significant breakthrough. Ever watch "Connections"? Thats how this stuff happens. Unrelated finds and exploration leads to new and different ways of thinking and doing. Yes, I agree the drug companies aren't going to be real helpful but I do believe that there are alot of good people who honestly want to help people doing research and looking for answers. The reality is that someone looking for a cure for some sexual condition(read big bucks here), will stumble across some compound that has a side effect of "fixing" the hypothalmus and eliminate the cause. Bingo - a new class of drug is found, the big boys move in to the rake in the dough and start marketing it for migraines. (and oh yeah, it might work for clusters too) Well I can dream can't I? domm
