Thank you all - here's what I learned

Well I touched bottom two weeks ago; only way to go was up, really. Thanks to everyone who offered their hard won experience and advice. Just to summarize for any newbies who come on like I did, here are the five most important things I learned from this episode of my cluster headaches: 1) No one is infalliable, and that includes your GP / Family Doctor. 2) Imitrex. O2. These will increase your survival chances. 3) Insist on the above when your doctor tells you "it's just a migraine" and doesn't prescribe them. This will save you an expensive trip to the E.R. where they will stare dumbfounded at you and immediately suggest you should have Demerol 4) The insurance / healthcare situation in the US is a fucking joke and a crime 5) Everyday, ordinary, mundane, moment to moment life - without a cluster headache - is singularly beautiful, transcendent, and sublime. Sometimes the worst reminds you of the best. Remember that those moments you get away from the Beast are worth it. Remember what suffering feels like, and have empathy for those who suffer in other ways. But for coworkers who think you are a) faking it and b) it's not that bad, well... Life is beautiful, but I wouldn't cross the street to piss in their ear if their brain was on fire. Thanks again everybody, A Stewart

OMG - I laughed when I read your email. I am new to this stuff too. What a great synopsis. I particularly like # 5 as I am trying to stay up with what the beast has brought to my doorstep. Heck, I would just like to lay next to my hubby once again and know that I won't wake him up with my trashing and carrying on.....oh well ..... remission has to be a stone throw away .....at least I keep hoping that !!!!! It's the little things in life, like sleeping peacefully next to your husband that this disease takes away that gets to you. Give me the pain....just don't take away my life.
