Topic: Traveling with O2 (Read 537 times) |

Hopefully next week my Dr. will prescripe some O2 for me. I do quite a bit of traveling in my job and I am ususally gone for at least 5 - 7 days. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in taking it on the airlines? Is it a real hassel and am I better off just taking meds with me or should I go for it? What about running out? Anyone ever have to refill on the road? I'm not sure how long those small portable tanks last.

When I went to CA earlier this summer I called the airline and they told me you can't bring your own tans on the plane but can rent tanks from them for a mere $75 per tank. That's for each leg of the trip So, if you have 1 layover it'll be $150 (whether you need it or not). And if you have a lengthy layover you have to arrange with an O2 supplier to bring a tank to the airport if you want one there while you wait.

Wonder if I can rent a tank in Orlando for my next trip. I just want to keep it in the hotel room while I am there.

That shouldn't be a problem. Just find a home health place near the hotel and have your doctor fax them a prescription for it. They should fill it for you.

Yeah what Ted said, It is worth it... I travle quite a bit with my job as well . Last Monday I had the worst flight of my life, I did not wan't to post my experiance because I don't like to whine, so asking questions is helpfull the more the better. I know altitudes can trigger ch but I have only experienced inflight miled 3 to 4 on kip . I did have my oxygen supplyer deliver a bottle to my hotel, the one thing I did right.
My flight departed at 10:30 p.m. so it was a light flight thank god. at about 9:00 the beast moved in by 10:00 I had an 8 on the kip but being the a- hole that I am I boarded anyway (not Smart) I got in my seat and asked for an icepac which did nothing thing as we took off I went to the bath room and puked a few times and went back to my seat and icepac , I had to finally ask the flight attendant if he could drop the oxygen and he said he could not really because he would have to tell the pilot and notily the FHA, then I asked If he had a portable? he said yes but I will have to notify the paramedics and make a report and its really a big deal.(I sware to all that is holy I could very easily be in prision right now facing murder charges and I am not kidding when I say that) I some how managed to be polite enough to say please and he complied, at that point a ex-military paramedic came back and helped ,of course a Texan U.S. military and thank god on the flight.The oxygen worked and I was pain free in 30 mins. I think being polite helps because people don't understand the pain , or the level of pain and tend to think it may be drug related, anyway,to make a long story short. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.
HAVE YOUR OXYGEN SUPPLYIER DELIVER OXYGEN TO YOUR HOTEL
CALL THE AIRPORT
SEE WHAT YOUR INSURANCE WILL COVER

Thanks Mark,
What a hell of a trip for you. I am in the private sector of the aviation business and have a lot of pilot friends who fly both commercial and corporate. No excuse for that flight attendents behavoir and I am glad you finally got what you needed. In corporate aviation you can bring pretty much anything you want on an aircraft so I am not up to date on commerical airline regs.
Now I just have to find oxygen suppliers in the cities I travel to. Think the best way is to call the hotel and have them find me one in their local yellow pages.

Check out if you can get this travellersuitcase with oxygen in the US.I have 1 of those and 1 big bottle beside my bed,The big one contains 10L
The suitcase contains 3X1litre and a backpack if you going out under a cycle.
This is really helping me combined with other meds

No problems att all markdavid.Nothing stops you with this.Just get a documentation from your neuro telling that you have clusterheadache,and need O2.Then the airplain-security cant say a thing

Do you have a percrip for oxygen ? and if you do, and still have a prob. let me know I will get you a bottle to london by oct. contact me at markhoebener@aol.com mid to end sept. if you get no reply keep trying or waiting I have some travle in sept. my self but the trips are short in duration,and I always answer e-mail. First call your doctor, airlines,oxygen supplyer etc... all else fails email me and we will set updelivery, I'll put a bottle on a flight , all i ask is you ship it back when no longer needed.
