Which is worse?
« on: Aug 5th, 2002, 8:13pm »

Sometimes I wonder which is worse.

#1 The beast when he's in town?

#2 When the beast isn't in town, the constant anxiety
over when the prick will show up?

Actually I've been relatively PF ( Couple of shadows) over the past 2 months, but the constant worrying is driving me nuts. Yesterday after leaving on a trip I drove back to my house 75 miles just because I forgot my meds. and I was only going to be gone for the day. I wouldn't even take the chance of being without them for a day. Man I sure like to think I'm tough, but I guess I'm kinda of a wussy Huh?

My vote would be for #2  I guess it beats the pain.

I have to say the worst is the beast when he is visiting.

Although I do check my pocket about every half hour at work to make sure my meds are still there.

would have made the trip myself. In habit of always carrying meds even when there are no shadows. Just makes sense.

Not to worry Jimbo.

For clusterheads, they need to rethink pain thresholds.

No one who comes here with CH or supports is a wuss.

You're tough enough to make the right decision.  When ending a cycle it takes me a long time to actually believe it's true, this beast is so deceiving and can come from anywhere.  I see you've learned that being without meds the worst scenario of all. Wink

Wussy.......NEVER

Don't blame you for turning back either.....about 2 yrs. ago headed out for an unplanned vacation at Thanksgiving time.....spur of the moment and just drove.....led us through Georgia and into Tennessee.......well dang on it if the damn beast didn't strike!........thank goodness I had my meds.......Imitrex instead of McDonald's for me that day.....had to wait out in the car while the rest of the family munched down their burgers.

So no, you're no wuss........smart is what you are to have turned around for them.

Good luck on your trip and hope you have a pf one,

I know of no braver soul, than the ClusterHead who looks the beast in the face and says, "I will not kill myself today!"

I do not have any kind of abortive med that works for me, but I would turn around just to get excedrin, you an't a punk!

I reckon worrying about when the beast is gonna come is worse...I mean sometimes just worrying about it can bring it on....for me anyway.

I say... Don't forget the meds, but don't dwell on the beast returning either... Live everyday that's relatively pain free to it's fullest, so that you can rejuvenate before the next cycle... Be it 2 days or 2 years.

I know the feeling.

I'm chronic and have 1-3 per day.
When I'm pain free (almost always from meds)... I am constantly waiting for them to stop working.  It's unfortunate, but it's what I know... after taking literally thousands of pills and none of them working long term (other than prednisone which of course I have to be taken off of periodically).

It's not being a wuss.
My biggest fear is my kids having to deal with this.  I know it's not supposed to be hereditary, but I was a child-hood migrainer and then started cluster in my early 20s.  My kids both started with migraine at 5.  I just keep praying they won't get it.

You're not alone.

Yes you guys are right. "Wussy" is a word that doesn't apply to us CH's. When an attack would hit me when I was in my 20's , I can't recall worrying this much when the cycle was over. Probably because I didn't know what the hell they were in the first place. Now that I'm pushing the big 4-0 I seem to worry alot more about the beast coming back. Does education = anxiety? I dunno, but I guess I should try to put it 99% out of my mind when PF and devote the other 1% of my memory for remembering my meds.

And Den, I agree with ya. A BIG FUCKIN STICK is the answer. Great post!
